Israel, the nation, occupies part of the land given originally to Abraham, to his son Isaac, and to Isaac's son Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel.

Today the area is one of conflict, violence, and trouble. But also there are many historical sites and places of interest. My visits to Israel, and its neighbour Jordan, have been to explore the biblically-relevant places and see them today, and imagine how they would have been at the time of Moses, or of King David, or of Jesus Christ.

In 1998 I visited the Middle East for the first time, stopping at various places in Israel and Jordan. The first section below contains a travelog and photos from that trip.

In 2001 I visited Israel again, this time staying in Jerusalem, see the second section below.
